Stryker takes the field for OC

Saturday night was the long-awaited professional baseball debut for KROQ's Stryker, the afternoon radio personality who earned a Flyers roster spot at a past celebrity tryout. And while many may have raised a skeptical eyebrow heading into the promotion, the DJ did not disappoint, not only looking the part of a player, but disproving the doubters with a liner back to the pitcher in his at-bat to leadoff Game 2 of the doubleheader, a Flyers 12-1 win over Tijuana.

HEAR THE AUDIO from Stryker's first-inning at-bat, an 0-2 pitch he hit back to the pitcher who knocked it down and threw to first in time to retire the former Loveline host. There's a lot of players who get timid in that batters box in an 0-2 count, but I'd assume the pressure of knowing you're in an 0-2 count in what is your only chance at the plate must be a lot more nerve-wracking, and yet Stryker was able to make solid contact on what closely could have been a base hit up the middle.

Stryker, a 39-year old LA native who last played competitive baseball in Dodger Stadium for the Los Angeles City Championship for his high school more than 20 years ago, wore No. 7 and started in left field for the Flyers, receiving thunderous applause when he was announced over the public address system.

We're working on getting video of Stryker in left field as well as his at-bat... check back and we should have that this week.
